Ordering & Limits
Unless noted otherwise, each listing is for one individual dahlia tuber. As a small-scale farm growing around 1,200 dahlias for tuber production, many of our cultivars are available in limited quantities—especially as we work to build stock. Please help spread the love and respect the purchase limits placed on rare varieties.Highly sought-after cultivars may sell out in seconds. If you have your heart set on a specific variety, we suggest checking out immediately; items in your cart are not reserved until payment is processed. Please note that we are unable to modify orders once they have been placed, and all sales are final. In the event we cannot fulfill an item, you will be notified via email and a refund will be issued. We value variety correctness and will never send a substitution in place of the tuber you ordered.

Tuber Quality & Expectations
Dahlia tubers come in many shapes, sizes, and skin textures. These tubers spend five months growing in the soil and another five months in winter storage, so it’s only natural for their condition to fluctuate. Each variety stores differently; some are no-fuss, while others require more effort to keep hydrated. It is unrealistic for every tuber to remain in pristine condition throughout this long process, but we are committed to selecting only the best stock available for each variety.
During division, we trim the ends of our tubers to ensure they are free of rot. Each tuber undergoes several inspections during the multiple inventory checks while in storage. Before our sale, we perform a final check to separate our best-looking, sellable tubers from our personal stock; this allows us to streamline the shipping process and ensure only the healthiest tubers reach you. While we are committed to selecting only the best stock available for each variety, it is natural for tubers to have slight imperfections that do not affect their growth; therefore, if you expect absolute perfection, we kindly ask that you refrain from purchasing from us. -
TUBER GUARANTEE
We guarantee that your tubers will arrive healthy and with at least one visible eye. While eyes can sometimes be difficult to spot—especially on certain varieties—we personally inspect every tuber to confirm an eye is present before it is packed. Please inspect your order upon arrival and contact Rubia at Backyardpetalsfarm@gmail.com within 72 hours if you have any concerns. I am always happy to help and want you to have a successful growing season—truly, don't hesitate to reach out! I’m here for you.We are being very intentional with how we pack each order to ensure a safe journey; however, we cannot be held responsible for delays or damage caused by the shipping carrier once the package leaves our farm. Additionally, while we guarantee a healthy tuber, we are not responsible for factors beyond our control, such as poor storage after delivery, garden pests, weather conditions, grower error, or differences in growing environments and practices.

SANITATION PRACTICIES
We follow strict sanitation practices both in the field and during division. We triple-sanitize our snips between every dahlia plant, rose, cutting, and tuber clump, using two rounds of 10% bleach, followed by a Dawn soap soak. We include a water rinse between these steps to maintain the integrity of the soap. Snips remain submerged in each solution for 5–10 minutes—often longer. To ensure maximum effectiveness, we prepare fresh sanitation solutions daily and swap in clean drying cloths throughout the day.
We wear nitrile gloves while dividing and taking cuttings, allowing us to sanitize our hands with disinfectant wipes between each clump and cutting. When taking cuttings, we use a syringe to apply Clonex Rooting Gel to the Root Riot Cubes versus dipping the cuttings directly. We also wipe down our dividing tables and shear handles. While this process is time-consuming, we prioritize it because plant health and sanitation are our top concerns. We maintain an abundance of snips to ensure we always have a fresh, sterile pair ready while others complete their full immersion cycles. -
Shipping & Pickup Policy
At this time, we only ship within the United States, including Alaska and Hawaii. All orders are shipped via USPS (Ground Advantage or Priority Mail) at a flat rate of $15 per order.
We are unable to offer local pickup at this time. While we hope to potentially offer this in future seasons, all orders for our 2026 sale will be fulfilled through shipping.
Combined Shipping
We are offering combined shipping for orders placed in our 2026 Spring Tuber Sale! To qualify: The name and email address must be the same on all the orders you place. No need to email us your order numbers as our system will automatically show all the orders associated with your email address. There is a one-time $3.00 handling fee to cover our time organizing and processing this for you. If you place multiple orders and the combined shipping cost exceeds $15.00, you will be refunded the difference minus the one time $3.00 handling fee. -
Dahlia viruses are a tough reality for every grower, and to be honest, it’s impossible for anyone to guarantee a 100% virus-free garden. Even a plant that looks perfectly healthy can carry a dormant virus. Research by the American Dahlia Society has shown that up to 87% of dahlias can test positive for a virus even when showing no symptoms.
Culling Approach
We do everything we can on our end to keep our stock clean. If anything in our rows looks suspicious or just isn't growing with the vigor it should, we pull and destroy it immediately. We do not compost suspected virus plant material—this organic matter is immediately bagged, sealed, and disposed of. We only sell tubers from the plants that were strong and asymptomatic all season long. We also maintain rigorous sanitation practices; detailed information on these methods can be found above under the Sanitation Practices tab.Once a tuber leaves us, there are many variables that can affect its health—such as pests, environmental stress, or different propagation and growing practices. Because of these factors outside of our control, we can’t offer refunds or replacements for suspected virus. We promise to do the work on our end to send you a healthy tuber, but by purchasing from us, you're accepting the natural risks that come with growing dahlias.

We believe in doing business with transparency and kindness, and we kindly ask for that same courtesy in return. If something isn't right with your order, please reach out to us directly so we can fix it for you privately. We reserve the right to decline service to anyone who chooses harassment or disrespectful behavior over a direct conversation. If our approach doesn’t align with your expectations, we understand if you’d prefer to work with a grower who is a better fit.
